Obituary for Ingrid J. Corallo

Living a long and fulfilling life, at age 84, Ingrid Johanne (Johnsen) Corallo of Windsor Locks, CT passed peacefully on to her reward on June 14, 2016 surrounded by her loving family and the caring staff at Saint Joseph’s Living Center in Windham, CT. She is once again united with her beloved husband, Paul Corallo.
Born in 1931, Ingrid was strong, intelligent, brave, energetic, spiritual and the youngest of 9. She was raised in Norway during World War II learning the value of family at a young age. To avoid the regular bombings in her cherished hometown of Fredrikstad, she and her siblings spent much time on her grandparents’ dairy farm in the country blessed to have the food produced there. Drawing on her inner faith, she followed her vocation as a nurse. She studied at a Catholic Hospital in Oslo which later included training at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. That is when she met Paul Corallo, her future husband, at a dance. Shortly after meeting Paul she returned home to Norway. But the love story blossomed from that point through letters, culminating with Paul travelling to Norway to ask for her hand in marriage. A permanent return to the United States followed, where they would become a postcard for the American Dream.
Ingrid converted to Catholicism in 1963, and their shared, unwavering faith became the foundation of their relationship as they both became more involved with the church. Ingrid continuously advanced her religious training always striving to learn more about her chosen religion and sharing the knowledge gained with others. Ingrid was active in the St Mary’s Church community as a Religious Education Instructor, Eucharistic Minister, and Lector. Even though she gave up her nursing license to work in the family business, she never lost her nurturing character, devoting herself to helping the elderly shut-ins in the community and volunteering with FOODSHARE and Meals on Wheels.
Ingrid Corallo is predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Paul Corallo. She leaves behind a large, close-knit family including her children and their families.
