Obituary for Evelyn A. Riordan (Hnizdo)
Evelyn A. (Hnizdo) Riordan, 97, of Rocky Hill and longtime resident of Enfield passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Middlesex Hospital with her family by her side. Evelyn was born May 28, 1919, in Windham,
CT the daughter of the late John and Mollie (Hajek) Hnizdo. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Edward J. Riordan. She was employed as an Executive Secretary for many years at Hamilton Standard and Dexter Corporation in Windsor Locks. Evelyn was a voracious reader who also thoroughly enjoyed gardening and traveling. She lived in Enfield for 56 years, where she lovingly raised her family, later moving to Colchester to be closer to family and most recently living at the Atria Greenridge Place in Rocky Hill. Evelyn was an active resident of the Atria Greenridge Place earning the reputation of the "Flower Lady", she left no area without a vase or flower arrangement for others to enjoy. She is survived by her four sons, John C. Riordan and his wife, Gail of Lafayette, CA , E. Michael Riordan and his wife, Donna of Eastsound, WA, Brian P. Riordan of Coventry, CT and Charles C. Riordan and his wife, Cynthia of Colchester, CT; seven grandchildren, Amber, Erin, Denis, Dylan, Dustin, Lindsay and E. Paige Riordan and many nieces and nephews. Relative and friends are welcome to join the family on Thursday, June 23, 2016, from 10-11 am at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral service for Evelyn will be celebrated at 11 am. Burial will be follow in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Protectors of Animals, 144 Main St., East Hartford, CT 06118 or a charity of your choice.
