Claire L.  Kida (Lemoine)
Claire L. Kida, 90, of Longmeadow, MA passed away June 20, 2016. She was born in Springfield , MA, the oldest child of Adolphe and Germaine (Lemoine) Lemoine. She helped pay for her own schoolbooks by doing chores for neighbors and gave some of her earnings from her first employers to help support her family. She worked at various Springfield businesses during the 1940's -1950's, including Milton Bradley, Westinghouse, American Bosch, Kinsler Garments, and returned to work in the mid-1960's working at Electronics. While employed at Westinghouse during World War II she assembled magnetos, and remembered dancing with servicemen from Fort Devens.
Claire became the wife of Frederick F. Kida after meeting him at a dance at Touraine Hall on State Street. He passed away November 2012 after they spent nearly sixty years together. She is survived by her only child Gayle F. Kida of Longmeadow, her sister Rita DeMatos of New Port Richey, FL and her brother Rene Lemoine of Longmeadow. Her brother Leo Lemoine pre-deceased her. Claire also leaves nephews Steven DeMatos, Dennis DeMatos, Gregg DeMatos, and Gary DeMatos, nieces Lynn Santa and Cheryll Phillips, and a sister-in-law Irene Ciepiela of Boca Raton, FL.
As a young woman Claire enjoyed dancing waltz and polka and her roller skating, and was talented working with her hands. During her years as a homemaker she made braided and hooked rugs, knitted and crocheted hats and scarves, sewed clothing, tended to flower gardening, and occasionally painted in acrylics. She treasured visiting relatives in Leominster, MA., Florida and Connecticut, and vacationing at Hampton Beach, NH, Vermont , Maine, the Berkshires, New York State, touring Amish country in Pennsylvania and Montreal, Canada.
A visitation hour will be Friday June 24 from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at St. Adalbert Church and burial at St. Adalbert Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Longmeadow Adult Center, 231 Maple Road, Longmeadow, MA 01106.
