Arthur F.  Africano
Arthur F. Africano, 86, of Windsor Locks, husband of Dorothy (Alekson) Africano entered into Eternal Rest on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at the MeadowBrook of Granby. Arthur was born September 26, 1930, in Yonkers, NY the son of the late Frank and Maria (Origi) Africano. Arthur attended local schools in Windsor Locks. He was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School Class of 1948 and continued his education at Suffield Academy. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After being discharged in 1954 he and Dorothy married in June of that year. Together they celebrated 62 years of love and commitment. Arthur retired as Materials Planner in 1989 from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after 34 years. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Church and served as Chairman of the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Arthur was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Riverside Council # 26, the Windsor Locks Lions Club, and the American Legion Gensi-Viola Post 36. Arthur was also a lifelong member of the New England Air Museum. He was involved in youth sports and founded the “Stone Age” Men’s Basketball League. Of all Arthur’s accomplishments and his love for life, the most dearest to his heart was his family. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is also survived by four children, Kenneth Africano of Granville, MA, Robert Africano of Somers, Elaine Frank of Windsor Locks and Richard Africano and his wife, Ann of Glenmont, NY: four loving grandchildren, Daniel and Rachel Frank, Katie and Peter Africano. Arthur was predeceased by a son, Mark Africano and his son-in-law, Mitchell Frank. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial for Arthur will be celebrated on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 10 am at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Windsor Locks Lions Ambulance Fund, P.O.
