Arnold I. "Arnie" Cowan, 86, of Somers, beloved husband of Renee (Bennett) Cowan for 59 years, entered into eternal peace, Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. Arnold was born June 6, 1930 in Greenfield, MA and was a son of the late Irving and Dorothy(Levier) Cowan. He was raised in McIndoe Falls, VT and had lived in Michigan, and later CT making Somers his home since 1963. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force as a B29 Flight Engineer. He was retired from Hamilton Standard UTC after 30 years and following was employed by Turbo Power Marine. Arnold was Past president of First Lutheran Church of Holyoke and was currently a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer where he was an Elder and a member of the church choir. He was active in the Somers community and was a former committee member of the Somers Planning and Zoning Commission. In his free time, Arnold enjoyed golfing and was a member of the UTC Golf Team. He also enjoyed Bird Hunting. Besides his wife Renee, Arnold is survived by a son, Craig A. Cowan and his wife Andrea of Ellington, a daughter, Lisa Ogren and her husband Craig of Canton; a brother, Ronald Cowan and his wife Rita of Ocala, FL, two sisters, Carol Moore of Austin, TX, and June Pafundi and her husband Robert of Roswell, GA, five grandchildren, Christen, Rachel, and Jacob Cowan, and Evan and Eric Ogren. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer (Please meet at Church) in Enfield followed by committal with military honors at Somers Center Cemetery.
